Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines is famous as the national airlines of Singapore. The airlines ply flights to 64 destinations in 35 countries of the world throughout 5 continents. Singapore Airlines has a strong position in the Southeast Asian region. The airlines have code share agreement with a number of airlines operating throughout the world. One such code share agreement of the airlines exist with US Airways due to which Singapore Airlines can ply flights to US cities like Charlotte, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Phoenix. Thus the airlines ply no direct flight to Las Vegas from Singapore. .





Established in the year 1937 as Malayan Airways Limited, the name was changed to Malaysian Airlines with the formation of Federation of Malaysia in the year 1963. However, following the separation of Singapore from Malaysia in the year 1966, the name of the airlines was again changed to Malaysia-Singapore Airlines. The following years saw rapid expansion of the fleet and route of the airlines. Since then, Singapore Airlines has been able to build up a strong brand name that stands for excellent service, innovation, safety, and added to all this, maintenance of constant profit. Singapore Airlines is the first airline in Asia and third airlines in the world to receive the status of IOSA by IATA. The airline has diversified its activities into many areas that include ground handling, aviation engineering, air catering, and travel tour marketing. The subsidiary of Singapore Airlines is called Silkair which plies regional flights to secondary cities of Southeast Asia, China, and India with smaller capacity aircrafts. A separate subsidiary called Singapore Airlines Cargo manages all the air freight operations of the airlines. Thus, Singapore Airlines together with Silkair and Singapore Airlines Cargo is the largest carrier of the world in terms of market capitalization. The airlines further have secured a rank among the top 15 air carriers of the world in terms of revenue passenger kilometers. Finally, Singapore Airlines is the eighth largest airline in Asia and sixth largest airline in the world in terms of international passengers carried.
